One of my favorite designer/columnists, Steven Heller, interviewed 7 designer/IA/UX people about their thoughts on the two sites.
The results are close to what you would imagine. But if you read the comments, you would also see that no where is safe from someone injecting political views into a harmless design discussion.
Talk in my department lately has been on the design of the Obama logo. It is amazingly simple and yet so powerful. When a logo can stand out without words or tagline, and the colors used are quick to define an identity, you have something good. His website also embodies his approach ( fresh ) and his voice ( change ).
